Awkward advertising

"Vodafone plots ad review"
- so let's brand the page with lots of Vodafone messages.

Can't decide if that's a pro or a con. You decide.

Hitler doesn't like the iPad

iPhone bluetooth headset

CR found this last night on ebay. I have no idea why he was looking at bluetooth headsets. But he found this and he thought it was awesome. I agree.

Auto Complete My Blog

A big thanks to everyone for getting my blog over 10,000 views since I've installed my statcounter in early February 2009.

What makes it even more ridiculous is that Google now has an autocomplete for my blog!
That's made my day.

Twitter can get you a job

More than 360,000 jobs have been listed on Twitter in the past 30 days. And now TweetDeck has just launched a beta version of JobDeck, it scans Twitter for jobs and then tags them according to category or location.
I must say networking has taken a new meaning after seeing this. I'm always seeing retweets of job openings from people in the design industries and now there is are websites to help make that even easier. TweetMyJobs and TwitJobSearch both work on a similar basis.

Take TwitJobSearch; I type in a job I'm looking for, eg. junior creative team, and then it finds all the matches it can. Apparently on the 21st January, Major Players had a junior team opening in an award winning integrated agency in London.

And it's as simple as that. What's great is if companies send out a post and don't use agencies to hire, it means you can find jobs that 'technically' don't exist. Awesome.

Happy job hunting.

Prison Dancers

Remember the original Michael Jackson thriller prison dance?

Well now they have a new one. The Filipino, Philippines "Dancing Inmates" from Cebu Provincial Detention and Rehabilitation Center (CPDRC), a maximum security prison, were treated to a visit by Michael Jacksons long-time choreographer Travis Payne and dancers Daniel Celebre and Dres Reid to learn performances from THIS IS IT.

And with the fact at the end it plugs his DVD. SOny have made a very clever viral, why change something that works?
Enjoy.

Update
They've done loads! From the Macarena, to Black Eyed Peas find them here

Using Twitterpicture to it's full potential

Recently Johanna Basford did here twitterpicture 2 piece (info here) and wanted suggestions for things to draw. For instance:
  • a sad tardis
  • a man with 52 pens in his beard
  • a badger with a party hat on
  • the x factor panel, judging the performance of a cabbage
I had a lot to compete with, so I thought, if this is a limited edition print of 100, it'll get lots of free coverage, with lots of pictures, posts and blogs. Why don't I try and be clever? So, my suggestion was:
  • a dog turd with a cocktail stick flag in it with the words wearecrap.co.uk on it
You can't blame me for advertising CR.AP can you? I've checked, and was the only one sad enough to suggest such a thing. Our site is now forever immortalised on 100 pictures, I wonder how many of those will check the site...
The full list of tweeters pics can be found here.
The flickr tagging picture is here.

C-Mon & Kypski

Yep, I've never heard of them either. But what better way to introduce yourself to the world than with a cool user generated music video.

Their website one frame of fame.com asks:

We need a little help from you and your webcam to finish off the music video
for our new single ‘More is Less’.

Basically the band members give you a shape to recreate, you take a picture via your webcam and then you'll get your one frame of fame in their new music video. I must say so far the video is looking looking quite cool. But I implore you to at worst click to 2 mins 30secs in, by far the best choreographed bit.

So, you think radio is dead?

Radio is a brilliant medium especially when Robbie Savage is involved.

Carlos Cuellar clears the ball, what happens next?

Listen to this. It doesn't matter if you like football or not.

I think he deserved it baring in mind I Googled him and found this...
Both are quite funny.

Safestyle UK

People power is everything these days, I wrote the other day about how the smoking I'd Do Anything advert sounds like the Safestyle UK advert, and was gutted to find that I couldn't find the original advert on youtube... well.

I got this yesterday:

Dear Mr Peel,

We were interested to read your blog post http://theapofcrap.blogspot.com/2010/01/nhs-id-do-anything.html and noticed it stated that YouTube didn't have the original Safestyle ad you were referring to.

We thought you'd like to know that it does now, at http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=a0-2n8JHc1M (and there's more at the Safestyle YouTube channel).

Best regards,

Safestyle Marketing

They listened and now it's there! Well done Safestyle UK, simple things make people happy.

Go Compare

I tweeted this the other day,it got quite a good response - basically everybody agreed with Dawn. I personally can't stand it and turn the channel over, mute it and even avoid walking in rooms if I hear the thing.

Now Gio has been spoofed, and this is exactly how I feel about him too.

Fleggaard - Topless Skydiving Advert

Yes you read that right. Fleggaard, a Danish e-commerce company, similar to Amazon, has created this 2 minute 45 second epic of what can only be described as an art director's dream.

It starts similar to the Virgin's 'Red Hot' tv advert then they board the Fleggaard plane, remove their top half then jump out a plane. It would be awesome if they did it for real but unfortunately it is then CGI and a wind tunnel.

It gets a bit farcical when they spell out a word (like Honda) then pull the parachute chord. Except one pulls off her underwear, hurtles towards the ground, lands in a swimming pool and carries on as normal. Right....

Here's the very weird ad. Any Danish translation welcome

Twitter Picture 2

Following the success of Twitter Picture 1, Johanna Basford has embarked on her second of this successful project, here's the details:

ANALOGUE ARTWORK FOR A DIGITAL WORLD
0900 Thursday 14th January 2010 - 0900 Friday 15th January 2010.

Over a 24 hour period she will be creating the second TwitterPicture, an interactive illustration drawn by hand and inspired by Twitter. Tweeters are invited to send her one suggestion each in 140 characters or less which I will incorporate into a super sized, hand drawn illustration.

The project will run for a continuous 24 hour period and will be streamed live here.

Watch the live creation of TwitterPicture 2 and get involved by Tweeting her your suggestion.

The view from the TwitterPicture webcam will be changing throughout the day, so keep checking back to watch the inky evolution!

Watch her live stream here. And get suggesting!

P.S. on the picture above I have the angry man on the right complaining about Polo prices. I haven't decided my next choice.

The Big Mac Snack Wrap

What what what what were they thinking?! The signature dish at McDonald's is now available in a tortilla wrap. Please don't bring it to the UK.If you don't feel sick, you can visit it's homepage.

NHS - I'd do anything

This ad pulls attempts to pull on the heart strings. I'm pretty sure it not targeted at me. And I don't smoke, so it's definitely not aimed at me. But it's the end voice over that really gets me... It reminds me of erm....

Of course, it's Safestyle UK. Okay so maybe it's partly the accent but the speed in which they both reel off the phone number doesn't help. Plus the Naaaaoooow!

What makes it worse is that youtube doesn't have the original ad, just the techno remix, so you'll have to click here to watch it if you don't believe me.
I do remember both ads because of it though!

Men's toilets

I saw this on my Facebook today. The guy on the left clearly thought my mate taking a photo was after something else. He must have missed the man using the urinal second on his right.Picture: Paul Roffey

It's just a bit of snow

For those who thought when a little bit of snow falls in Britain we all grind to a halt, well maybe there is a good reason for it. Here is a google map image of the UK taken at 11:50am today (7/2010).

It reminds me of The Day After Tomorrow. The huge file can be find and downloaded here. Sometimes Britain really does just look beautiful.

Merry New Year

It's been a nice break and I'm slowly getting back into the stride of tweeting and blogging. I've realised if I take a step away from the web for more than a few days I seem to lose all track of time. Days roll into the next and my general collection of useless information deteriorates.

So I thought I'd let the web decide my New Year's resolution. To help me I used the random word generator on Monina Velarde's online portfolio site.

Honestly the first hit gave me this.

Seemed quite apt. So here I am, writing this, getting back to ads and generally becoming that sponge again.
