Ed Morris to leave Lowe

So, as guessed by Brownmann in the pub ages ago, Ed Morris is going to step down at Lowe London in early 2009 when his contract would allow him to.

Apparently Morris has agreed to a new set of contractual terms, which will see him work for the agency in a consultancy capacity. In the new role, he will work for Lowe on a yet-to-be-arranged number of projects, which will include COI and John Lewis, should the agency retain the latter account.

All this sounds a bit too many ifs and maybes as he will have a new, as-yet-undefined job title and will help the agency in its search for a replacement creative director to take over his day-to-day responsibilities.

Bizarre if you ask me. Not many people that sort of job now do they? Ed wants to be able to do something else in life that do not involve a pad and pen. As he intends to pursue other creative projects. He plans to direct ads, take on non-executive roles at creative companies and pursue personal projects.

I think all of this I feel spells bad news for the John Lewis pitch, whom without a leader to turn to, may move away from this renowned agency.

Looking at this from Ed's perspective, if you lose Nokia Nseries, Stella, Innocent and Twinings, not to mention their chief executive, Amanda Walsh, and requiring a replacement for Steve Gatfield, the Lowe Worldwide chief executive, who will step down from the role in April. He must have felt the world has imploded and now is a good time to move on.

I wish him all the best for whatever he wants to do.

Lost space bag to reappear in British skies

A tool bag dropped by an astronaut during a space walk to repair the International Space Station will be visible in the sky above Britain tonight.
But star-gazers will need a telescope to see the bag, which will appear as a speck just ahead of the space station between 5.40 and 5.44pm.
The bag was one of the largest items ever to be lost by a spacewalker, and occurred during an unprecedented attempt to clean and lube a gummed-up joint at the international space station.

Police officers will be given 10,000 Taser stun guns under new plans.

Specially trained officers will be able to use the 50,000-volt weapons when faced with the threat of serious violence, the Home Office said.
But Amnesty international has warned the weapons were "potentially lethal" and called for a review of the decision.
My view on this is obvious…Tasers are “potentially lethal”, carrying a gun is erm probably a lot more lethal! They are needed as and when the situation is necessary, not just because they are cool.

Press release here
Britvic is launching a major integrated campaign to promote Tango. It is part of the drinks company's strategy to bring the brand back to its once iconic status.

The "Save Tango" campaign, created by BBH, will aim to raise public awareness of the threat that Tango is facing because of the nation's over-obsession with health and increasingly "do-gooder" attitude.

It will run across TV, outdoor, an interactive website, and will also include a push on social media, PR and experiential activity. Media planning and buying is being handled by MindShare.

Simon Stewart, Britvic marketing director says: "The campaign taps into the insight that people feel we've all started to take ourselves a little too seriously and have taken being 'politically correct' a bit too far.

"Save Tango” capitalises on this sentiment with a series of humourous and typically-Tango, 'on-the-edge' antics that are set to entertain consumers as well as galvanise their support."

The campaign kicks off tonight (November 24) with a series of ten-second teaser clips designed to create intrigue and spread the news that the Tango is under threat. The teasers have already been seeded on YouTube.

Thunderbirds are go! Again and again

Thunderbirds are go!
Chris got me thinking, have many people have ripped off these characters? We use Mr. Men in our book and people sometimes say it's over used, but these guys have been abused!

These are just the ones I found on Youtube and anything else I could think of. Not a bad haul by a group of puppets!

Top marks go to Kitkat and Drench for their entertainment, Swinton and DVLA have okay thoughts, EDF kind of doesn't really feature them but I'd be cheating myself if I didn't include it.

Inferno: Last Day

So it’s our last day at Inferno, the christmas party invite goes round with our name on, ‘we grant you 1 wish’ it says, an extension? a job? nevermind...

To celebrate us leaving, because I’m sure it was ‘thank god at last’, rather than a teary sombre moment, we had 10 or so pizzas charged to the company. 5 minutes after arriving, our farewell lunch was a pile of boxes.
(Charli, Ruth and Craig enjoy the fact I took a picture)
Oh and we won the Flora pitch today, so ASDA will be seeing our work in their stores in March or so, even more disappointment that we won’t see it through.

Oh well, onwards and upwards. Its been a laugh. Good luck Brownmann, you’ve got 2 pitch wins to follow up by the placement team!

Street art

Street art is normally used to bring a little culture to an otherwise unremarkable environment.
But one artist has made unsightly telephone and electrical boxes blend in by camouflaging them with pictures – of the street.

'The images are all unique, based on the context,' said 39-year-old painter Joshua Callaghan.

Weiden's

We went to Wieden’s yesterday, all really excited, we’ve been working on our new slick porty for 4 days solid, including 4am the night before. Saw Ida and Fab and they were cool, we met Ida about a year ago and she was really impressed how far we’d come in that time. So much so the offer of a placement was nearly on her lips. Not quite this time but we don’t think Weidens is above us anymore.

On another note, back in February we left our then favourite piggy in the W+K shelves, almost forgot all about it until lone behold we spotted it pride of place on the shelf. He felt quite at home. (Top picture February, bottom last night)

Keep bouncing those ideas.
